2011

Radio Series:  Frankly Speaking,  Bullying - A discussion with Dottie Coffman (The Dottie Coffman Show) on bullying inside and outside of school and the ways that today's technology and online social sites have made the effects of bullying often inescapable for victims of bullying.  Included are recent cases in the news of relentless bullying and harassment that led to teenage suicides. The discussion will seek answers for what educators, parents, and law enforcement might do to help prevent bullying.
Friday, Feb. 4th.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on WIMO Radio.

Radio Series:  Frankly Speaking,  Legal Inequities - A discussion on the legal inequities inherent in the prosecutions of parents, particularly poorer single mothers, from impoverished communities who attempt to falsify records and mislead school authorities in order to enroll children in more affluent and safer school systems, while the National Educational Association and Federal Law (Amendment 14) advocate and permit the education of children whose parents are illegal or undocumented aliens.  In question are whether these laws are just and equitable.  Is one situation more criminal than the other?  In these difficult economic times, when federal and local state budgets for education are being cut, should we be prosecuting and jailing parents who are legal, tax paying citizens for attempting to send their children to safer, higher quality schools, while not expelling children from families who are in the country illegally, nor prosecuting or deporting undocumented parents?
Friday, March 4th.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on WIMO Radio.

Radio Series:  Frankly Speaking,  Tiger Mothers vs. Soccer Moms (Also the Plight of White Girls Targeted for Prositution in the UK) -  At a time when China is surpassing us both as an economic power and in the education of children, some rather timely items have appeared in the news that reveal the stark differences in parenting, and illustrate, perhaps, the erosion of American strengths and societal standards, and their unfortunate consequences for our children and our nation.  Could weak parental and societal standards and hyper-political correctness cause American teenage girls to become targeted by Asian and Muslim gangs for sex trafficing and prostitution as have girls as young as 14 in the UK? What led to rampant targeting of young white girls in the UK and what lessons can we learn in order to safe guard young American girls?
Friday, April 1st.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on WIMO Radio.

Radio Series:  Frankly Speaking,  Rites of Passage (What is the right age?) - A discussion with Dottie Coffman (The Dottie Coffman Show) on the re-emergence of two debates and movements pertaining to teen rites of passage, those being whether our country should lower the legal drinking age to 18, and raise the legal driving age to 17 or 18, as some groups and states are suggesting. While both proposed changes are aimed at improving teen safety and reducing hi-way fatalities, a primary question becomes whether one change in legal age would nullify the benefits of the other change.  Included will be a brief historical analysis of the fluctuations in the legal drinking age and an examination of where we stand on these issues among other industrialized nations.
Friday, May 6th.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on WIMO Radio.

Radio Series:  Frankly Speaking,  Video Game Violence & The First Amendment - A discussion with Dottie Coffman (The Dottie Coffman Show) on the Supreme Court's recent ruling denying California the right to establish a state law that would regulate the sales and rentals of graphically violent video games to minors.  In their  7-2  vote, the Supreme Court, interpreted the First Amendment as including rights of minors to be exposed to "ideas" free from parental and state legistlated restrictions.  The discussion will include thoughts on the Founders original intent and modern interpretations, as well adult commonsense and social responsibility.
Friday, July 1st.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on WIMO Radio

Radio Series:  Frankly Speaking,  No Toddlers Allowed - A discussion with Dottie Coffman (The Dottie Coffman Show) on the recent trend of banning toddlers from the first class sections of airlines and from a growing number of upscale restaurants.  What are the causes and ramifications of these bans?  is this a backlash against over indulgent parents who may be lacking an awareness of their toddler's uncontrolled actions and noise on others?  Or does this trend reflect the preferences of a growing and aging population of childless adults?  Should other adults who pay extra for a romantic dinner at an upscale restaurant or for a quiet seat in the first-class section on a flight rightfully expect to be free from screaming children?
Friday, August 5th.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on WIMO Radio

Radio Series:  Frankly Speaking, This Month in Politics (Pres. Obama's Job's Creation Plan Unveiled at Joint Session of Congress & Starbuck's Call for a Boycott on Political Campaign Contributions) - A discussion with Dottie Coffman (The Dottie Coffman Show) on the pros and cons of the President's job creations plan, how it is is likened to similar plans implemented by past Presidents, and there effects both positive and negative.  Starbuck's CEO, Howard Schultz's rallying of 100 other corporations to boycott campaign contributions to Congressional elections until members of Congress enacts effective plans for improving the economy and creating jobs.  As laudible as this boycott appears to be on the surface, does it raise other questions of ethics? Should corporations be buying the influence of members of Congress via large campaign contributions.which at the same time undermines the influence of individuals; that is, the people whom Congress is elected to represent?  Or should we be speaking up for campaign finance reform that bans corporate influence buying and special interest peddling?
Friday, September 2nd.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on WIMO Radio

Radio Series: Frankly Speaking, HPV Vaccine - Should it be mandatory for girls? / Women on New Fall TV Lineup - One step Foreward, two steps back?
A discussion stemming from the GOP debate in which candidate, Michele Bachman, took issue with candidate, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, for having issued an executive order to have girls 12 years of age and up vaccinated against HPV.  Would government mandates to vaccinate girls infringe upon parents rights and or moral beliefs?  Some liken the HPV vaccination to school vaccinations for measles, chicken pox, etc.  Others question what message mandatory vaccinations for HPV sends to both girls and boys about sex, consequences, and personal responsibility.   Also included, a discussion on the new TV season which has a greater number of shows centering on women.  Do the content and female roles advance or set women back?  Do they support or diminish the empowerment of women?  Is it, as some have stated, a return to the "jiggle TV"  of the 70's and characterization of women as submissive and male dominated as in the 50-60s?
Friday, October 7th.   Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on WIMO Radio

Radio Series: Frankly Speaking, Immigrant Birthing Vacations & 14th Ammendment Abuse.
A discussion on the growing trend of birthing vacations wherein women from China, Turkey and other countries travel to the US. to intentionally give birth to babies so they their child, under a loop hole and loose interpretation of the 14th Amendment, can obtain U.S. citizenship.  This has become a steadily increasing business among a specialty travel industry which provides travel arrangements, assistance with documentation and birthing centers for pregnant foreign women to stay in until they give birth.  This is a growing trend among wealthy Chinese women who pay to come to the U.S. on a birthing vaacation, obtain citizenship for their baby, then return to China where the American born baby is viewed as a status symbol.  The child can return later and receive full benefits and rights of a U.S. citizen, as well as sponsor other relatives for future citizenship once the child reaches the age of 21.  Should this loop hole be closed?  What is being done to protect the integrity and intention of the14th Amendment?   Included is a brief overview of the history, original purpose, and intent  of the 14th Amendment.
Friday, November 4th.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on The Dottie Coffman Show, WIMO Radio

A discussion on the increasing violence and frenzied behavior associated with the Black Friday retail sales and late night hours.  Considered are various factors contributing to this year's especially desperate and violent behavior.  Also discussed is the Occupy Movement's effect nationwide.  What is the central theme and chief message of the Occupy or 99% Movement?  Does it have credibility?  Will it have any effect on the 2012 elections?  How does it compare to other socio-political movements?
Friday, December 2nd.  Airtime is 9:05 a.m. EST on The Dottie Coffman Show, WIMO Radio
